Starcraft 2
  • Rajio (Character Code #503)

I'm finally learning I think. I've been sticking to random 3v3s. I've stopped playing the campaign when I realized it wasnt teaching me the multiplayer at all - units in the multiplayer dont even exist in the campaign and vice versa.

I was just in a 3v3 and stopped a 3 protoss team from canon rushing my teammates. Not only did I stop their advance. I destroyed all the canons, then me and my teammates managed to somehow finish them off. replay: saved. :D
  • Im rusty to be honest but ya ill def play with you. worst thing in a 3v3 is being the one guy getting jumped by 3 or 2.
  • Me too! Eyeofthehawk. 914. For those that don't have me!,
  • Good stuff switch, and yes, I've heard the Campaign is different unit wise this time around.
  • Juxt, you want another trial account?
  • @EyeOfTheHawks Not right now dude, but thank you. With Halo: Reach less than a week away, there's no point for me to get one now.
  • Thats true, well i got one for when you need it.

@Doos, have you had a chance to try 'er out ?

  • I haven't yet, no.

I'd give 'er a try if you have an extra.
  • i have 2 trials available as well for anyone and 5000X WoW....damn you blizzard stuffing that in every product you can..i got 3 of em when i got diablo 2....
  • whats 5000x WoW?
  • The Trial accounts for WoW are free on the site anyways hahaha

and yeah Doos, ive got two cards if you wanna give 'er a whirl
  • Sure... What do I need to do?
  • Email me so I can reply to it, or Pm me on here
  • E-mail sent, yo. Thanks.
  • @Doos did you get it working ?
  • I need to install it still. Soon, sir, soon... and Thank you.
  • It runs well on my PC... so I can say that the boys behind it's development know what they're doing.

I haven't had much of a chance to get into 'er properly though..
  • I added a couple of you already.

Great game but I can't find time to play it and when I do it crashes after a half an hour on ultra settings.
  • Maybe dont do ultra ?
  • Maybe dont do ultra ?

lol, but then there's no point. The recommended settings make the game look, for lack of a better term, bleh.

It used to run fine before, I'm on the final prophet mission and I guess there's just too many units on screen at a time. I think there's an achievement for killing 1500 zerg!
  • pro tip: if you sit in your base gathering strength, you ally is also getting stronger
  • pro tip 2: If you scout them to find that you are getting stronger quicker, continue
  • Never played Starcraft multi, never really even finished all of the campaigns of the original. Might play this one at some point...
  • lets just say i played too much of the original starcraft.... :P like non stop for me i loved that game.

^ This. One of the best games ever until "Fastest" became the norm speed and ruined things for me :p.
  • In case you suck at reading comprehension and picked your SC2 name too hastily not bothering to notice that it was 'permanent', they're now allowing one free namechange;

subsequent ones will cost. learn to pay attention to what you're doing next time :P
  • I'm actually super happy about this.
My brother jumped on the game before I did.
Thus I had his name. SO happy to have the switch.

All is right in the world.
  • I was thinking of you when I posted it :P
  • Since I got my laptop and I am finding that it has a pretty good graphics chip, though all it says is it is an Intel HD, cpu is a i3 350M so it may work just fine. I may try Starcraft 2 I liked the 1st one.
  • @wikkiwild1 http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ Look for Starcraft and start the test

My system can run it (which I already knew), as I just pass the minimum requirements. It recommends that I upgrade my RAM, OS, and Video Card though.

Update: For fun, just tried to see if a bunch of my Xbox 360 games, if their PC counterparts would run on my 4 year old system, and almost all of them will. Most of them would run even better with a Ram upgrade (since I only have 1 GB), but that's generally encouraging.

Without a Ram upgrade, I could run say, Fallout 3 or Mass Effect 2 (how well is another story, of course), but BioShock 2 is a Neddy no-no.

  • The only thing is, you will most likely only run it at 640x480 ;)
  • it runs on my crappy laptop. ovbv not with 'ultra graphics' but it looks fine and plays well unless the screen is FULL of zerglings.
  • Well according to the link Hawks provide, (thanks by the way) my laptop does not meet the minimum specs.
Edit: I don't think the site know's what I have. It passes all attributes for a vid card but not the card itself. I'll check the Starcraft2 forums. Should find the info I need there.

As I said, "how well is another story" ;).
  • Ya, but reading some more on my GPU I find it should run it at 1024x768 at 31fps.
  • just do a trial

31fps with no models? Or with max stress.

GPU isnt all that determines FPS. SCII is a very CPU intensive game aswell.

If you are running it at 31fps with nothing going on, dont even bother buying it. Do what Rajio said and get a trial from someone.

As soon as 20 zerglings are introduced, a Thor or a Void Ray, that 31 could easily turn into a 3.1.. And thats not playable by any means
  • It doesn't give specifics just resolution and fps. Haven't found a demo for StarCraft 2 yet.
  • A free demo is now available, which includes the first three Campaign missions and Skirmish as Terrans vs a Terran AI. No multiplayer.

A Battle.net account and active internet connection is _not_ required to play the Demo.

  • oh man I so have to download that. I'm going to hate you for it though. I probably won't like it just because it isn't AoE or AoM though lol

In terms of real time strategy, Blizzard Entertainment has always been the strongest developer. The only non-Blizzard RTS I've ever given high praise to is Halo Wars. Others were good, but nothing spectacular.
  • WC3 is still my favorite

oh and have you tried DEFCON, @Juxtapose?

Agreed, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne is still my favourite real time strategy game of all time, with Starcraft: Brood War taking a close second.

Never heard of DEFCON until now. Any good?
  • its like the game WOPR is playing in War Games. you can play it in actual-time too.
  • Nice, I'll have to try out that demo... provided it runs on my laptop...LOL
  • I've been taking a look a the SC2 mod tools, and it seems like you can do quite a lot with it. Like really do total conversions and stuff. I'm thinking of working on somehing. Anybody interesting in mod development?
