Starcraft 2
  • Just had the  most hilarious thing happen in a 3v3 .... enemy rushed us with zealots and marauders. pretty early. i was in teh back of teh team base so i was teching to air. my zerg allies decide to not make units quicky (wtf do zerg players do this?) so they had no defense. one of them had a baneling. lol as if. anyhow. i see them coming due to a zel naga tower so we had some warning. i chrono-boosted the fuck out of my nexus as i was training a mothership. the enemy gets into our base and starts tearing up that ally's base. they get the spinecrawlers hes building (at the last minute) and his pool, but ... by the time they make their way to attack his main base and drones i miraculously manage to spawn my mothership and have it hovering there so its all hidden in his cloak. yes his whole base and economy cloaked under my mothership. enemy has ZERO anti air units with them so they cant shoot up. hilarious. they just wait around wondering whre that zerg base went until i get my carrier out and destroy the lot of them (still cant shoot  up!) they try running so i vortex them just to keep them in my base longer so i can get more carriers and laugh at them when they come out of it and die.

    hooray.

oh also im also FINALLY out of bronze league. silver ahoy.
  • image

looool. notice how all his drones, and both his hatcheries are cloaked under the MS so the enemy cant see/shoot them and I already have a carrier there pecking away at their invasion forces. Mothership trolling at its finest.

Ha, good stuff dude!  Zerg players, at least in Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War, always relied on early offence.  Some, like myself, would slap down a Sunken Colony early on to protect my Drones (it's more or less their anti-ground turret), but not many.  Of course in the original game, you could crank out Zerglings, Hydralisks, or Mutalisks very quickly.  As I recall from my trial version of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Hydralisks are now higher up the tech tree and take longer to get.

Back in the day, players would also use Terran buildings to try and cover/distract enemy players from hitting certain buildings, kind of like you did with your Mothership, though no cloaking of course.  The Arbiter (Protoss unit) could cloak units, but not structures, as I recall.

The map you played on, is that Lost Temple?

  • Title suites the video
  • Yes, finally a replay of that. I've been hoping you'd upload this :D watching now....

  • that was some pretty solid harass you had going there. You can tell he didnt know what to do about it.  i always forget how uch detail this game can have in the graphics ... im running it on lowest everything on my laptop lol.

  • Yeah haha, if i were able to upload at my native resolution (1440x900) you'd see the detail in full.  But that was at a really low 480p. Like not just 480p, but a low quality 480p haha

Maybe we can play some time and ill get that monstrosity uploaded.
  • Sigh. Its been one of those weeks - sometimes having allies is more of a deficit than an advantage. I need to make more friends who play this game so I can party up. 3 (the enemy) vs 1 (me) vs 2 (my "allies") is tough work.

This time I lost... but just to highlight something, look at the kill counts.

    image

thats me with 254 kills before I gave up and surrendered in futility.

to put that in perspective that is almost five TIMES as many kills as my allies combined.

thats more kills than my 3 enemies COMBINED

thats more than three times as many units killed by my hands as my allies produced all game.

    ...

and yet I lose 12 points on the leaderboard and this isnt even particularly uncommon. sigh. this is why i cant get into the higher leagues.

You also destroyed a fair bit of buildings too.  Ever thought of just doing 1v1's?
  • I don't know. I'm really resistant to 1v1 for some reason. As much as I hate my allies, I like the dynamic of 2+ armies per side. 1v1 i imagine being cheap rush vs lucky break prediction.

the building damage i just count as 'my share' .. since everybody in teh game got about the same number of buildings razed .... except my allies ofcourse who both did jack shit lol.

In 1v1, there will be rushing, but once you counter that or have your own rush countered (if you feel like rushing) games can go on and be very drawn out and creative.

Luck rarely plays a factor in 1v1, and it does come down to your skill vs your opponents with no one else to help or muck things up.  That's why it's my preferred game type; as it's all down to me and me alone.
  • Alright heres my latest tale from my 3v3 digest (aka the cavalcade of idiot allies). this time my ally build a crappy wall, on a map where if you build a crappy wall or none at all, it endangers your whole team. So I couldnt ignore it. It would mean my eventual destruction. I built my wall 3 or 4 buildings thick. this buys time, it takes longer to break through that much. Ally? one building thick. enemy can get through fast and once they're in your base is toast.

Heres teh play by play of what i did about it.

    image

you can see i designed my wall to be thin only in one spot, so the enemy would break through there (where the pylon is) and attempt to rush in (who says studying architecture history is useless? not me!) .. so it would be easy slaughter for my storm. In the shot they all bundled up on that pylon to destroy it thinking they could get in my base that way. this allowed me to storm them all even sooner than i expected lol. all i lost in their assault on this side was one canon, 2 buildings, and one high templar. (abou 600 minerals in value), and i lost 3 pylons (300 mins in value) on the hole-plug maneuvre. in my books thats pretty minimal casualties. they lost whole armies trying to get through. (priceless)

  • @Rajio Sadly, most people don't think in even the most basic strategic sense, let alone tactically.  Bottle-necking choke points, provided you have the resources to accomplish this, is such a no brainer it hurts knowing most people can't think about it :p.

You're enemies were dumb too.  As soon as you see anyone strategically bottle-necking, you should pull back, expand, and either a) create siege units to punch through safely with a counter or two for the AoE damage you know will be coming, b) Go for dropships and/or air to bypass the bottle neck altogether, or c) use a few token siege units to make the defender think you're trying to punch through their choke while you really use that as a distraction to drop anti-infantry units into the defender's Probe lines; thereby messing up their economy.

But you know, people, not thinking since forever.

And yes, calculating unit/structure cost lost on each side shows well whether you came out ahead or not _provided_ your opponent didn't win the game with that battle.
  • well you can see in the last shot, blue did just that. he held back. built seige and medivacs and stuff and just let teal keep rushing on his own once i walled up ...but then like an idiot he jus had all his units walk into my storm. he could have used tanks from afar and taken everything out slowly with just one (guarded) tank ...or he could have used those medivacs to airdrop inside (i couldn't have done feedback on them all!) ... so  he had the units but no micro/sense. this is why im so proud/shocked i pulled it off lol.

    FAIL.
  • Surprisingly this was a non-frustrating game (not like that previous shot i posted). My team actually helped out. I just happened to have done all the actual damage. My team was mostly bait, or scarecrows - frightening the enemy away from my base when they tried to attack or drawing them away from my army while I went nuts destroying everything.

    image

its still funny how when you add up all my allies they dont do nearly the damage together that i do alone. :D

  • Wow, Pink build a lot of buildings!
  • lol yeah for a terran he went nuts. i actually told him that buildings don't fight back. (and no he didnt have bunkers or missile turrets)
  • I was just in another 4v4 and one of our allies quit instantly so its a 3on4 already. I decide to go for a wildcat play. Moved to the gold and went for super economy. my ally and I try to control teh guy that dropped to build his economy too. I went for ghosts which is not typical for me but I need practice with them and had a hunch I knew what the enemy would do.

    So this happened...

Behold me rape 3 whole armies with little more than ghosts :) there were more nukes set off but these are the best of. Keep in mind, this is all from ONE match!

    image

I was happy about taking otu red's whole army which was a big threat to us. I had that base there specifically for him to attack. It was sacrificial knowing he'd hit it and i could buy time for a nuke to drop on him. (I had no SCVs there so no loss. sucker) and I planned that bottleneck where I got blue too but the best is cyan - Couldnt stop him from killing that base but knew he was headed here. eyeballed the positioning and dropped a nuke before he even got there so once all his units showed up they were in the right place and amazingly i timed it just right. destroyed! I couldn't stop laughing.

I never UN-installed it. We never actually played it together. I ended up learning to play with Laron on my team. Can't remember why you stopped.

Screw that noise...I tried forever to get him into the multi-player.
Me and Mike played a shit ton of Supreme Commander 2 back in the day...him me and Cody were unstoppable.

Mike...we should warm up with some free for all before you start thinking about playing placement matches. I'm currently in the process of updating the game.

Hey Rajio, whats your Bnet man? I wanna fight ya sometime. If that's cool with ya.
  • Yes! I need more Bnet friends! its Rajio but I forget my number - I'll dig it up fer ya later.
  • I'd play if I had a decent PC that wouldn't crash often.
I still have the game and I'm desperate to play some bnet mp but don't want to spend $2000 on a desktop PC.

Is there a reasonably priced laptop that can play this game at ultra settings without crashing? thx.
I'm thinking of investing in a new one soon.

No...you were very clear. I know dick all about laptops. That's why I didn't respond to that portion. Only the "I still have the game and I'm desperate to play some bnet mp but don't want to spend $2000 on a desktop PC." portion of your post.

  • Yes they do, and that's what I've always loved about Blizzard Entertainment.

  • Already season 3? Damn. I was hoping to make my 500th terran win by season 3. only about 20 more to go. Putting me at about 700 wins/season so far.

  • Jesus...I have been sticking to playing with friends. You guys and your competitive league games.
  • #2 in my division right now :)

Only lost ... 1 game, maybe 2. I think its only 1 tho.
  • played a few 4v4's and got the worst teammates i've had in a long time including one who as AFK for the WHOLE game. At least if he quit I could use his economy but nope. useless. as such I go relegaged down to bronze which Ill never be able to play my way out of. :/

One dipshit said "calm down" when i suggesed our team wall off since were were against multiple zerg. .... guess what happened a couple of minutes later.
