What Did You Accomplish In Life Today? Vol. 2

Saved a dog at work from getting hit by a car. There was explosions and dead bodies everywhere, but that little dog is safe

    Wait, really?

Yes, minus the explosions and shit. But I ran across the street and picked up the dog before the car hit it.

    Dude... so what exactly happened?
  • we found the dog as we were working it had this huge harness on and part of it was stuck under a wheel of my friends van somehow(van hasn't moved in a week or two) and a bigger dog startled it so it was trying to get away across the street but the leash had it stuck in the middle of the road and a teen was speeding down the road(surprise) and was gonna hit the dog so, I ran across the street and picked the dog up before the truck hit the dog.

    I ate a Bolar pear!

Also, Reclaimer, you're a doggy hero!
  • I finished ripping out the the speakers, and deck from my car the other day. Also took out the spark plug wires, cause they're fairly new. I'm still thinking if I should take out my radiator, seeing that it's still fairly new. My car is dead, and I'm just planning on selling it to the scrapyard. I don't know a whole lot about cars. My car is a 94 Honda Civic, would my radiator fit in any other car?

    Quite so. Congrats!

  • So today I had a very interesting day. Today was my first real legit training session with a gym trainer. I thought hey i lost 40lbs since Dec i'll be fine. We get to talking about nutrition and stuff. He said he was in the NHL for 10 years. It didnt even register in my mind to ask what he did. Was he a player? A NHL trainer? etc. Tmrw I will find out.

To give you a small idea of what i normally do I push myself hard to hit 160 beats per min.

Skipping rope, push ups, running shuffle, burpees, lunges, jumping on steps, knee highs, flurry punches. each 30 sec 2 min break x 4. I have never( and i sweat all the time) sweat like this before in my entire life. I hit 178bpms oh and i don't have a fucken clue how to explain the ab training other than I had a 6lb ball whipped at my head had to do some side to side thing and back work and this retarded hold on my elbows.

I loved every single minute of it.

Quote of the day was "I'm not going to get you jacked so big that you can't whipe your ass" Functional muscles. Also he is emailing me all this insane health stuff.

Turns out milk is bad for you. Soy milk is loaded with estrogen. So almond milk it is. That's all I got out of the jibber jabber of crap he said.
  • Changing my bed sheets the other day, and I noticed some spider webs growing in the corner of the room, where my bed rests. Went to go grab the vacuum, and when I pulled back my boxspring, I find a shit ton of mold growing on the wall. Boxspring ruined, carpet ruined, drywall ruined. Had some guys check it out today, and they ripped out some panelling from the outside of the house, right where my room is. There's rain getting into the wall, causing the mold. Great. Luckily we rent, so we don't have to pay a penny for renovations :).

Hopefully you won't get ill by inhaling any spores.

    No. :(

Good news: I did pretty well in the course I really loved (Criminal Justice) and I passed (not good but passed) the course (Sociology) that I was so extremely worried about. I calculated it and figured I would have passed by the smallest smidgen imaginable.
Bad news: I did really bad in the course I thought I was doing super well in and it was easy (Anthropology) and I ended up failing a course..
Not even sure about Psychology yet.. I think I failed the last test because of our dumb prof. but I think I passed the course.. I hope.

Not a good start to University :/ I'm not even sure how to tell my parents hteyre gonna be so mad/disappointed and I intend on paying them back for the course I failed plus the admission fee to the faculty I originally applied to. No point in even sending an updated transcript to the University I was hoping to get into because without that last class I don't have enough credit hours now to even be considered for a position at the faculty.

    Sorry, bit of a rant..
  • Yesh that sounds rather rough. Sorry to hear that Dino.
  • damn that sucks my marks were all over the place too, tranfering to a new program though but its still a good lesson to study harder come september
  • Crazy week, Running on little sleep and to top it off i'm going to have to be dealing with the RCMP soon. FML

I'm sorry to hear that Dino, and in my experience the best way to look at something like this is a learning experience. It's not the end of the world, it just means you need to change up some plans.

Do you plan on retaking the course?

In terms of approaching your parents, my suggestion is direct honesty, followed up by responsibility. Let them know that you failed, that your very disappointed in yourself, but that you've learned from this and won't let it happen again. Offer to pay them back as you suggested and let them know what you plan to do going forward.

Showing that kind of responsibility and organization goes along way, and speaks volumes about one's maturity and confidence in themselves.

We all fail at things in life sometimes, it's how we handle that failure that defines us and helps us grow.

This part cannot get enough emphasis.
My first year in SAIT didn't go so smoothly either but that's alright. I'm more aware of expectations and will work harder on meeting them when I go back to school.
  • I am devastated. I just went to play my Champions of Norrath on my PS2 and it won't read any of my discs. D:
  • PS2s cost about 20 bucks. So even if you cant fix it, a new one isnt hard to get.
  • Thanks everyone. I'm feeling better now after reading these and talking to some people but I'm still nervous to talk to my parents. Despite the fact that I was hoping to do the 3-year program for social work so I can get it done with quickly, I'm thinking I should go at a pace that's easier for me to work on like 4 classes per semester. 5 sucked, plus with 20 hours a week at work.

Despite being nervous about talking to my parents, I'm feeling more confident again, after reading these things and talking to some other people. I was considering talking to my grandma about it first to see if she can give me any advice or something. Not sure yet.
  • I started learning how to drive standard today. I grinded gears a little bit, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

If you think taking things at a slower pace would allow you to achieve better, then I'd say do it. The other option would be to cut back on your social life and focus on work/studies.

That'll happen in about 10 or so years for you anyway, so it's up to you if you want to "practice" now.

But yes, come up with a plan before discussing with your parents so you can share it with them.

I learned the same thing, my biggest problem this past year was studying for tests.
Not the fact that I didnt do it, I did. I just started way too late on two of my Calculus midterms and completely botched them. My study habbits for that class were quite lacking and when test-time came around, I realized how little i knew.

I went into the exam with about a 35.

Studied my ass off for that class solely. Since I knew all my other classes would be fine, even if I bombed a final. I knew enough in each one to at least pass the finals.

Ended up with a 61 in Calculus, had one class drop a bit to a 67, and the rest of the marks were great.

But yes Dino, exactly what Juxt said, take from this what you can, we're only human. We learn from our mistakes, not so much our accomplishments.
  • @Ozzi Ya, it definitely was a lot of fun. I was driving my buddy's old Mazda pickup. My next vehicle purchase I plan on getting manual, so I want to learn ASAP.

I might be driving an Old Mazda pick-up too for work over the summer.

Did a wack load of yard work this weekend.
  • yeah, one of my big problems was not studying as much as I could have. I think it was more reading for me than anything though. I had about 7 books in semester 2 and I'm sure I could have easily kept up I just.. didn't? a few of my books were suuuuuch dry reading.

and honestly, i had the time to study because my tests never fell within a week of each other except for the very end during exam time, that's when I fucked myself over the most.
those marks aren't too bad. especially going in with a 35 man you must have aced that. i can't even imagine how hard calc would be though.

thanks again for the advice everyone. feeling a lot better about my first year despite the fact that I wish I could have done a bit better.
  • I don't know.
  • I don't know.

    Yes you do. Stop lying.
  • my grandma is on her way over after i talked to her on the phone about my marks. I'm gonna tell my mum. i feel like I'm being overdramatic having my grandma over to tell my mum but i think its gonna make it easier for me.
    still nervous.
  • Since last night was very warm, I went out with a couple friends and we went longboarding. Its so peaceful to go out at night, when there's no cars on the road, and just board. I'm going to be starting to do some slight downhill boarding. Nothing to serious though, I'd like to keep my skin on my body, not the pavement.
  • Let me know where you guys board so I can run you all down with my car.
  • Haha, why the hate? I know there is a lot of goof longboarders around, but some of us are decent. I don't really like going during the day, its too busy, and riding in the bike lanes suck, all the cars kick rocks and shit into there. I see a car coming, I get out of the way. I know I don't belong on the road.

    Enjoy!
  • my phone screen cracked...man what a shitty month first my laptop now my phone...what next?

    What ever though.
  • Holy shitttttt, so I'm back from camping, a little earlier than expected because it started raining today. I was drunk the entire two days. My most iconic moment of the weekend was crushing 6 beers as soon as I got to the site. I then was going with a friend to collect some firewood, and we had to cross to the other side of this creek. Now me being the clumsy idiot that I am when I'm drunk, completely lost my balance walking across the log to the other side, and fell right into the creek, while I was wearing all my clothes, and a jacket. Lots of fun for me, everyone lost it laughing.
  • @gaussinmist haha nice... That totally would have been me... So I got an iPhone yesterday been playing around with it. So much better than my blackberry…also was at a family BBQ with a over abundance of beer...fuck idk my cousin was telling me how he can drink lots and how he can drink more than me I had the same amount if not more to drink than him before he started to throw up... The shitty part of it all was he threw up all over my living room...fml
  • I went over to a friend's place for his birthday party, and drank for the first time in perhaps two months. I didn't pack anything because I wasn't sure if I'd stay over, so my plan was to maybe go get booze later on in the evening, but he had purchased a ton of Stella in Quebec, and had become sick of it. So, that was all in a cooler for people to drink. Thankfully, it's one of my favourites.

The plan was to camp there if I stayed, but another friend wanted me to head back to his place. Ended up doing that. We put his air conditioner in while drunk, but it worked out pretty well.
  • On the first night I ate a whole 6 pack of cheese filled smokies, and then sat at the campfire for 40 minutes, feeling like shit until I finally threw up. All my friends are like "Why aren't you having another beer?" And I just replied with "Waiting to throw up". Boy, did I feel great after that, and I continued my drinking endeavours.

Easy. Every game is better with a controller.
